Crispy Baked Buffalo Wings Recipe
Ingredients:
2 lbs chicken wings, split into flats and drumettes
1 tablespoon baking powder (not baking soda)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
For the Buffalo Sauce:
⅓ cup hot sauce (like Frank's RedHot)
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional, for a touch of sweetness)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions:
Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top. Lightly grease the rack with cooking spray to prevent the wings from sticking.
Prepare the Wings: Pat the wings dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This is crucial for getting them extra crispy.
Coat the Wings: In a large bowl, combine the baking powder, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Add the wings to the bowl and toss until they are evenly coated with the mixture.
Bake the Wings: Arrange the wings in a single layer on the wire rack. Bake for 20 minutes, then flip the wings and bake for another 20-25 minutes until they are golden brown and crispy.
Make the Buffalo Sauce: While the wings are baking, prepare the sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the hot sauce, melted butter, honey (if using), and garlic powder. Stir over low heat until the mixture is well combined. Remove from heat and set aside.
Coat the Wings: Once the wings are done baking, transfer them to a large bowl. Pour the buffalo sauce over the wings and toss to coat them evenly.
Serve: Serve the buffalo wings hot, alongside celery sticks and a yogurt-based ranch or blue cheese dip for a healthier twist.
Tips:
To make the wings extra crispy, bake them on the wire rack to allow air to circulate around them.
Adjust the spice level by adding more or less hot sauce or including a dash of cayenne pepper in the sauce.
